Dance Physiotherapy

At Body Lab, our physiotherapists have personally trained in dance, with an excellent understanding of dance technique and the needs of the dancer. They have experience in treating dancers of all ages with varied dance backgrounds, styles and levels.

Our therapists understand the specific needs of dancers, and the particular physical demands of classical ballet. At the Lab, we treat a range of conditions associated with dance, including stress fractures, muscle tears, FHL tendon pain, flexibility restrictions and hip pain.

Pre-Pointe Assessments

At Body Lab, we offer pre-pointe assessments, which consider a dancer’s physical readiness to make a successful transition onto pointe shoes. During the pre-pointe assessment, the physiotherapist will consider injury history, conduct a thorough clinical assessment of foot and ankle strength control and technique, and prescribe an appropriate home exercise program to ensure strength deficiencies, malalignment issues, and altered movement patterns are addressed and corrected to minimize the dancers risk of injury (to promote injury prevention). The physiotherapist will also follow up with a report to your dance teacher, based on their findings and recommendations.
